When the gusty blow of wind
Walloped against the lonely crest
Of a lonely hill in a panorama
Of a wintry creek meandering
Through the narrow ravines
Bearing a craggy stretch of earth,
I was there under a shadow of
An arched boulder shrouding me,
Winter shrubs and creepers
Cushioning me on my back.

The dark clouds were hanging low
Enveloping the distant meadows

A melancholy holding together
The coldness of the wind that was sweeping over

The lips; cold and blue quivered to talk
With the limbs huddled close
Creating an internal warmth
To keep the soul afloat
In such an unnerving phase
That was symbolizing a grave despair
That was blowing my eyes shut
To the world beyond the dark clouds
The thicket; difficult to penetrate.

Occasionally when the clouds drifted apart
Streaming out beams of sunlight
Thawing the icy sheet over the lands,
A phoenix soared out of the serene horizon
Flapping its way out of the remnants of the clouds
Onto the sloping valleys and the sparkling creek
Turning over with a radiant warmth
Pouring into the cold crevices.

A narrow ray of light fell on my face
When our eyes met
Uniting a bond; unknown and unfathomable
Like the innate connection of a barren land
And a rush of an anticipated downpour
That blankets the eroded earth
With blossoming vegetation,
Bringing it back from the dead.

The buried heart bloomed out of the soul
Melting away the thin crust of detachment
Arousing the immense power of love
A love that could overpower every force
That would strongly hold together the faith
Binding the milieu on the edge of survival
A love that would enliven my faith in me
That my love could reach out to a distant soul
And bring it close with an invisible thread
Of blinding radiance; indissoluble
Like directing the forces of nature
Towards a single cause of a pure belief
The belief to start walking down the hill
Over the flowery fauna flanking the creek
Brimming with pristine water
The tears that had passed down the slope
During the unsettling times of existence

The time that was now a celebration
Of the power of intense romance
Between two souls that were no longer destined
To stay aloof as a melancholic story

I was smiling ceaselessly
At the bright plumage of the phoenix
Vibrantly fluttering around me
Throwing a veil of perfection over the vista
Because if this time was meant to stay
I would get her to me
From deep within the dreary seams
Showering her angelic face with a soft kiss
Under the silver light of the full moon
Shining below us in the gushing creek

Our bodies wrapped around
Warmth overflowing
Love blossoming to its zenith
In the mystic attainment of nirvana.

But the natural calamity showed up
And drifted away our bodies
Just as the vanishing clouds of despair
Reformed and rejoined into thick grey plumes
Encircling the valley off the lively spurt of verve
Forcing me to take retreat in the cave.

The mended heart was broken
The broken heart I had learnt to live with
Holding it together somehow for those
Good times that came once in a blue moon
The hollow darkness I was befriending
The extremes of emotions being cut off
Into a bittersweet breadth of solidarity
That was consolidating me from within
To remain afloat for the moment

When the beatific phoenix would perch upon the rocks
And strum out the strings of unfinished love
Waiting to be victoriously relished and cheered.

An eternal wait that had the power to last a lifetime
When guided by a love so strong
That could break all barriers of convention
Achieving a towering symbol of immortality

Because when the pain stagnates endlessly
And the tears flow out incessantly
A hard rock builds up over time
That stands over every obstacle
Keeping you from your destined love.
A love; powerful and deep-rooted.
